Slow your lettuces down
If all your lettuce plants are ready to eat all at once and isn’t that what always happens then retard their growth by giving them a shock to the system.  Dig them up, leave in the shade for one hour, then replant back in their same holes.  This treatment forces the lettuce to readjust back to the soil again before they continue to grow and this will take several days.  Do keep well watered though.

Mosquitos

This is the time of year  ( Summer ) when these pesky biting insects are breeding and all they need is a little bit of water for the wrigglers to develop in before they metamorphose into the buzzing biting adults winged adults. So keep a watch out for any water trapped in saucers or pots and weekly change this water or hose out the old water. Keep bird baths scrubbed clean and add bleach to water features. By keeping your garden mosquito free in turn you will have fewer mosquitos visiting for a feed.

Outdoor lights

Keep outdoor lighting to a minimum through the warmer months. The lights attract all manner of   moths and beetles who cavort around them and with each other. The end result is a population explosion of caterpillars and grubs   in your garden.
