Nandina Richmond

This is the perfect plant to grow if you require height without width as this shrub will grow elegantly to 2ms high and only 1m wide. Over a period of years new shoots will grow from the base and form an ever widening thicket of stems but these can easily be removed to keep this shrub in bounds. Nandina Richmond always looks good in the garden with her reddish cane like stems from which grow finely textured and cut leaves. New leaves emerge pink and bronzy red, turn lime green and age to reddish purple and bronze by autumn. Large panicles of creamy white flowers are produced in spring from the tops of the shoots and green berries soon turn shiny bright red. These panicles of berries remain on the bush right through winter until being devoured by birds in late spring. Both berries and leaves are lovely cut and last for weeks in a vase.

Nandina Richmond is self fertile so only requires one plant for production of those gorgeous berries.

It is an easy fuss free and enduring shrub   which will grow in sun or semi shade. Best leaf colouring is in full sun with little fertilizer. It prefers deeply worked moisture retentive soil but established plants can withstand drought and neglect.

Commonly known as Chinese Sacred Bamboo this shrub fits in well with tropical ,water and oriental planting schemes. Mature plants look fantastic uplit with night lights.
