Rose Graham Thomas

This superlative rose is a result of a cross between Charles Austin and a hybrid between an English rose and Iceberg by the famous rose breeder David Austin in 1983.His line of rose breeding has spawned the English roses which have become immensely popular world wide. David Austins objective was to combine the form ,character and growth of the old roses with the repeat flowering habit and wider colour range of the moderns. He certainly has achieved that   and indeed his roses are recognised as repeat flowering old fashioned roses.

Rose Graham Thomas   has flowers of the richest   and deepest pure yellow colouring .The medium sized flowers are deeply cupped and then open wider, much like Iceberg. They have a strong Tea rose fragrance. In England this rose grows to 1.2ms but the climate is much to its liking in N.Z. and left to its own devices it easily attains between   two and three metres in a season. For this reason it has become a popular climber but judicious pruning will keep it to a large bushy shrub. That is the way I grow my bushes. I have three quite closely planted and together they make a glorious show.

The flowers are produced in large clusters just like floribunda roses. Prune off spent flowers down to the first shoot that has five leaflets and the bush will smartly send up another flowering shoot. Position Graham Thomas in full sun for the summer and feed and water well and he will reward you with a delightful fragrant garden picture and flowers for the vase.
